Marta Ptaszyńska, the Helen B. and Frank L. Sulzberger Professor at the
University of Chicago, is one of the most prominent Polish composers in
the world and is a world-renowned percussionist. She is also a leading
authority on Ignacy Jan Paderewski GBE, whose fascinating life
encompassed his extraordinary skills as a virtuoso pianist and composer
of note. He was also a diplomat and politician, and he became the third
Prime Minister of Poland. This talk provides an illuminating
introduction to this remarkable man’s life and work.
